Wakame is olive green to brown in color and has a long, smooth, rubber-like leaf that can be up to 2 meters long. It is found in rocky coastal areas. This seaweed, originating in Asia, was soon spread over the United States, Iceland and Western Europe. In China, it is grown on ropes and harvested from spring to summer. The stem is used for the processing of seaweed salad and the leaves are dried and cut. After processing, wakame gets an attractive green color. Its flavor is delicate and slightly sweet ; you can almost taste the sea in it. Wakame contains a rich source of vitamins and minerals but is low in fat.Furthermore this seaweed is an important ingredient in certain cosmetics and it is often used in beauty treatments.
