Philip Dennis Foodservice is a family owned regional wholesaler, founded over 50 years ago. We supply customers throughout the South West, Oxfordshire and the Midlands with a complete range of quality frozen, ambient and chilled foods, together with fresh meat and fish.

Food has been integral to our family for generations. Archie Dennis opened a butcher’s shop in Braunton, North Devon over a century ago, and it was there that his son Philip learned the ropes before starting up his own business. In 1977, his son John, who is now the company Chairman got involved with the business. Today the company is run by an executive team.

Our business has survived – and thrived – thanks to constant innovation and progression. However, we’re still grounded in the traditional family values Archie ran his butchers by all those years ago.

To us, good food isn’t just about nutrition and taste. Animal welfare, the environment and sustainable food sourcing are all important to the culture of the business.

That’s why we promise to deliver:

Quality produce

  • Always from reputable producers, and locally sourced where possible
  • Impeccable handling throughout the supply chain, including delivery in temperature-controlled vehicles
  • Independent accreditation like Red Tractor on many products

Great service

  • Outstanding choice, with over 5000 product lines available
  • Easy ordering processes
  • Flexible ways of working

Working with Philip Dennis

Philip Dennis Foodservice is committed to equal opportunities. No employee or potential employee receives less favourable treatment or consideration during recruitment and selection on the grounds of race, colour, religion or belief, nationality, ethnic origin, sexual orientation, gender, age, disability, marital status or part-time status or is disadvantaged by any conditions of employment that cannot be justified as necessary on operational grounds.

Charity Work

We work closely with local charities and we provide continued support through sponsorship, fundraising and event participation.

We have chosen charities at each of our three depots, and also support many more local charity initiatives, as well as national schemes such as the Macmillan Coffee Morning.

Sustainable & Ethical Production

At Philip Dennis Foodservice we are committed to working with our suppliers to ensure responsible and ethical production wherever possible.

We are a member of the one of the leading Foodservice and marketing groups, Caterforce.

As part of its buying policies, Caterforce is introducing significant sustainable changes to our own brand Chefs’ Selections range including ingredients, animal welfare, reducing plastics and palm oil.

Packaging reduction is also one of our highest priorities and as part of our Caterforce Purchasing Group agreement, we are encouraging suppliers to reduce packaging, in particular, plastic wherever possible.

Working towards a Greener Future

Philip Dennis Foodservice is committed to reducing its environmental impact and working with our suppliers and customers for a sustainable future.

Here are some of the ways we are working to a greener future…

Vehicles…

To provide our quality foodservice our delivery fleet is vital, however we are taking steps to be as eco-friendly as possible and we have installed alternator driven freezer systems on our fleet as these consume up to 50% less fuel than trucks with diesel refrigeration machines and emit 50% less CO2.

Our aerodynamic canopies also reduce fuel consumption by up to 10%

We source 100% Renewable Energy

Wind turbines

The company has invested in two wind turbines at its South West depot. These turbines now produce 60% of our electricity requirements.

Solar power

We have also installed solar panels at two of our depots. These can generate over 340 kilowatts of power helping to save over 20 million kg of CO2.

The combined CO2 saving power of both solar panels and wind turbine over a 20-year lifetime is equivalent to planting over 100,000 trees!!

Other Initiatives…

Recycling

Our three depots recycle over 150 tonnes each year of waste material including plastics, cardboard and polystyrene

LED Lighting

We are 100% light efficient at our South West depots with other depots soon to follow suit.

Food Waste

Not fit for sale food items, such as dented food tins, are donated to charity helping to provide meals for our local community.

And this is just the start….

We are committed to ensuring our company continues to reduce our environmental impact and are constantly looking at more ways to reduce waste and improve our energy efficiency.
