A worthwhile cause for our Heroes! Philip Dennis Foodservice was proud to be able to support the recent Op Surf UK event in Bude. Op Surf UK, which is a joint initiative with Help for Heroes and The Endeavour Fund charities, brought together 55 ex-veterans and some of the top surfing instructors from around the world to surf and experience the healing power of the ocean. The event, held at Summerleaze beach in Bude, was designed to offer therapy, exercise and the ability to bond with other servicemen and women.
Gary House, organiser of the event, explained that the servicemen had suffered a range of both physical and mental injuries such as PTSD, and this event was a way of offering them a way to interact with people to help with the healing process. Philip Dennis was delighted to be able to support the event by contributing a wide range of food with the help of its suppliers and James Cook, Account Manager at Philip Dennis said: ‘This is such an amazing event and we feel privileged to have been a part of it. Seeing everyone taking part was so inspiring and I’m so pleased that we could help support the event and keep energies up!’ The event culminated with an afternoon tea for everyone involved with the Mayor of Bude, Bob Willingham, held at The Castle, Bude. Op SURF UK is a joint initiative, executed by Help For Heroes Sports Recovery and supported by the Endeavour Fund. Op SURF UK aims to build on the Amazing Surf Adventures adaptive surf programme out in the USA for wounded, injured and sick (WIS) Service personnel and veterans. Many of the WIS who have taken part described the incredibly positive impact on their well-being and many have continued their love of surfing.
